In large industrial areas, surface water, mostly rainwater, is drained into the sewer system. However, in the event of incidents such as fires, it is necessary to retain contaminated water in order to prevent environmental damage and impairment of biological sewage treatment plants. Emergency retention basins are used for this purpose.

Normal operation

The basin's outlet valve is open so that rainwater can flow out unhindered.

In the event of an incident

The valve must be closed to retain the contaminated water. Monitoring the fill level is essential to prevent overflowing. In addition, upstream basins can be closed to collect more water.

Challenges

Fortunately, accidents are rare, so the valve often remains unmoved and can become stuck. This makes it difficult to close in an emergency. In addition, safety or power failures are often only detected when needed – for example, when you want to operate the valve.

Solution with Cluey AM

Our Cluey AM offers a comprehensive solution to these challenges:

  • Remote control: Gate valve commands (open/close) can be triggered remotely via the Cluey outputs.
  • Status monitoring: The end positions of the valve (open/closed), fault messages and running time are recorded and reported via digital inputs.
  • Detect valve blockages: The integrated intermediate position monitoring (timeout) detects blockages and reports them automatically.
  • Maintenance runs: A digital output regularly triggers maintenance runs of the slide valve to prevent jamming.
  • Supply reliability: The 24 V supply is monitored by Cluey itself. In the event of a failure, the system reports a fault to the higher-level system – even in the event of a power failure, thanks to battery backup.
  • Level measurement: A level probe connected to an analogue input (0–20 mA) measures the tank level and reports when limit values are exceeded.
  • Shaft access: A cover contact detects when the shaft is accessed and also reports this.
  • Local control: Control panels (open/close/stop/maintenance) are connected directly to the system and also report their commands to the central system.

Data transmission & advantages

Communication takes place via LoRaWAN® or LTE-CAT-M in the mobile network.
