Enormous savings and simplifications in logistics – an investment that pays off: IoT sensor technology from comtac!
Swiss salt works guarantee that enough de-icing salt is available for winter road maintenance at all times. However, consumption can vary by a factor of four, depending on whether the winter is mild or extremely cold. Swiss salt works can deliver around 7,000 tonnes of de-icing salt per day. This places the highest demands on storage and logistics concepts.
Many winter road maintenance services store road salt in mobile rental silos from Taufix. Customers arrange for subsequent deliveries of road salt themselves. As orders were often only placed when the silo facility was empty, deliveries had to be made within a very short time frame. With comtac IoT sensor technology, customers receive information on the current stock level and consumption in the silos so that they can place orders for subsequent deliveries in good time. This optimises the ordering process and allows subsequent deliveries to be planned at an early stage.
The comtac solution involves attaching a Baumer Electric AG radar sensor to the silo, which transmits the fill levels to the head office daily via the LTE network. This means that the customer is always informed about the current fill level and can optimise deliveries. The digitalisation of fill levels represents a major improvement in logistics and efficiency for both Swiss salt works and their customers.
Intensive testing is currently being carried out on 20 silos. The findings will be used to optimise the system and equip a further 260 silos before the end of this year.
