Cat-m Mobile Technology
LTE-M / CAT-M is based on the widely used mobile radio standard LTE. CAT-M is especially suitable for IoT applications with a higher "data demand", as it can send smaller amounts of data than classic LTE transmission, but significantly more than LPWAN (e.g. LoRaWAN ®). The power consumption is the opposite - it is higher with CAT-M than with LPWAN, but considerably lower than with LTE. For IoT applications, comtac develops and optimises your firmware in order to allow mobile radio applications to run on battery power. This is achieved by collecting data on the device for as long as possible and transmitting it only intermittently to the cloud. That requires "on-site intelligence" so that, while data is transmitted immediately in the event of a threshold violation, the mobile radio connection does not have to be reactivated until after a cycle interval that is as long as possible. Hint: CAT-M ≠ classic LTE! Consider this when taking out an appropriate mobile phone plan as well as when checking the worldwide network coverage of your provider. |
