Critical infrastructures: 450 MHz
Germany, along with several other countries in Europe, has a special regulated frequency band for monitoring critical infrastructure. It is explicitly intended to also be available in case of catastrophes and power failures. Although it is not a typical IoT network, it still offers the possibility of connecting sensors that provide information on the status of supply networks in addition to classic remote control technology. A good example of this is the monitoring of transformer stations in the medium-voltage distribution network, many of which are still being operated blind. Knowing their condition is an enormous advantage - whether in case of power failure for faster fault localisation or in order to collect information on changed loading flows through solar power and charging stations during normal operation. |
